Guatemala is the name of my country

I did not choose to be born in it, neither did my parents, nor my grandparents. Surely some of my ancestors decided, as part of an adventure, to settle in this blessed land, place of many trees.

The article 66 of the Constitution of the Republic

Establishes that Guatemala is made up of groups with ethnic diversity. This statement is obvious for Guatemalans and foreigners, the diversity of languages, clothing, faces, traditions, facts, realities, beliefs, foods, etc., which, as pieces of colors with their shades that enrich our country, does not go unnoticed.

Doubt, restlessness and admiration.

My sense of belonging to this country led me to daydream, to want to discover what Guatemala is made of, by whom it is inhabited and what is the meaning of all the ethnic groups.

Guatemalans, an extensive demonym shared by the Mayans, Garifunas, Xinkas and Ladinos from which 25 valuable ethnicities arise. Each village and each ethnic group with their own identity, and all together, as one.

Roots of a society, environment of ethnicity, wealth and construction of a family legacy, traditions, honest work, values, pride and a history that transcends to new generations. This is what my country is made of.

With my camera and my emotions

I wanted to capture fragments of everyday life, dreams, perspectives and realities, unique moments, spontaneous and unrepeatable events, under the approach of the diversity as national richness, and multiculturalism as the foundation of social coexistence.

My intention is that each reader of this book, can interpret or decode the content of the photographic documentation from their own perspective, combined with the author’s art, creativity and impressions, but also, with the spontaneity of the moment and the originality of the situation, to provide genuine, and at the same time, technical content.

The basis for the integration of this book are based on my identity as a Guatemalan, on the commitment as a citizen and professional to assume the responsibility that corresponds to me, to disclose and make visible the cultural richness of Guatemalan society.

Bless the Guatemalan families that opened their doors to me to share, from their intimacy, their essence, their roots, their values, their love for Guatemala and their life purposes.
